Sam Ross is a PhD student awaiting her viva at the University of St Andrews Business School. Her PhD was inspired by working in a variety of professional service roles at the University and observing succession transitions. She is now the Manager at the St Andrews Preservation Trust, where there has been a significant change programme to implement. She enjoys swimming, yoga, cooking and wine. This talk will focus on the findings of Sam’s thesis, which explored experiences of succession across 43 UK universities. A followership lens is applied to the data of 121 interviews, with findings highlighting how the transition of a successor can catalyse internal and practical transitions for surrounding staff.
