Speaker 1: Professor Zoe Marshman, University of Sheffield, UK

Biography: Professor Marshman joined the University of Sheffield in 2002 and now works as a professor of dental public health and as an honorary consultant for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Office for Health Improvements and Disparities. Her main interest is child-centred dental research to improve the oral health and treatment experiences of children and their families. Prof Marshman has experience of leading large multi-centred randomised controlled trials, integrating qualitative research into trials and conducting process evaluations. She has published widely on topics including oral health-related quality of life, oral health promotion and dental anxiety.

Speaker 2: Professor Imelda Coyne, Trinity College Dublin

Biography: Imelda is a Professor in Children’s Nursing, and Director of the Trinity Research in Childhood Centre, Trinity College Dublin. She is a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, and a Fellow of the European Academy of Nursing Science. She is the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health and is a member of the European Academy for Communication in Healthcare (EACH). Her research focuses on communication with children and adolescents in healthcare, shared decision-making, co-designed interventions to promote communication, child-centred care, and youths transition to adult healthcare services. In Ireland, she provided leadership for a national strategy on children’s nursing, policy on transition, and Government health care policies for children and youth entitled, Better Outcomes, Brighter Futures and First 5 Early Years. She was appointed as Ambassador for the Government Children Participation Hub resulting in a nationwide plan addressing children’s participation in decision-making. Her research has led to a participatory research methods text, App to help young children engage in healthcare encounters, keynote invites, national and international collaborations, and Cochrane funding. Her current research focuses on an intervention to promote adolescents’ communication and engagement in healthcare encounters in diabetes clinics.
